Types of Deterioration

Wood Defibration is one form of deterioration that disrupts the woods surface and leaves the wood with a fuzzy appearance. This fuzziness is due to damage caused by the growth of salt crystals within the wood cells. Given sufficient time, the salts can severely affect the strength and physical condition of the wood.

Dry Rot is a fungus that is most often thought of as a building or homes cancer, rampaging though the structure and destroying any timber in its path. The fungus, which thrives in moist unventilated conditions, can cause widespread destruction of structural timbers. Because the fungus thrives in damp, unventilated conditions, it can occur in the areas of a property that are not often seen, so damage may be extensive before the attack is discovered.
